London Calling Podcast Yana Bolder
Ryan Schofield, founder of Simply Oldies Radio, created the station out of love, nostalgia, and a desire to honour a very special bond. The station was born following the passing of his beloved grandfather, Ken Halliwell, in May 2025. Ken was not just a grandfather—he was Ryan’s mentor, his biggest supporter, and a guiding light throughout the early days of his radio journey.
Growing up with Ken, Ryan was immersed in the music that shaped his grandfather’s life—the hits of the 1950s and 1960s, from rock ’n’ roll and Motown to classic pop. These songs were more than just music; they were memories, laughter, and life lessons shared between grandfather and grandson. When Ken passed, Ryan transformed his grief into a lasting tribute, creating Simply Oldies Radio.
Launched in November 2025, Simply Oldies Radio celebrates the Golden Age of music while honouring Ken’s memory. The station spans the 1950s through the 1980s, playing everything from early rock ’n’ roll and soul to Motown and pop classics of the ’70s and ’80s—songs that move the heart and lift the spirit.
More than music, Simply Oldies Radio is about connection. It’s a place where listeners can escape the modern world and revisit the songs that shaped generations. Every track carries a story, a memory, and a piece of history—just as every day at the station carries a piece of Ken’s legacy.
For Ryan, the station is a celebration of the grandfather who inspired him, a reflection of the music that shaped his childhood, and a gift to everyone who loves timeless classics. Our mission is simple: to share the joy, warmth, and nostalgia of the oldies with listeners everywhere. Whether you’re revisiting the songs of your youth or discovering the Golden Age of music for the first time, Simply Oldies Radio is a place where every note reminds us of the power of music—and the people who shaped our lives.
Tune in and enjoy the classics!
